Witherslack Group have a history of  providing inspirational education and care to children and young people, resulting in life changing experiences and countless stories of success.

We are the UK’s leading provider of specialist education and care for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, communication difficulties (autistic spectrum conditions, Asperger’s Syndrome, speech, language and communication needs) and complex learning needs.

Witherslack Group’s history of success and sector-leading Ofsted judgements has been achieved through an ethos of high aspiration, placement stability through our ‘team around the child’ approach, unique in-school therapy solutions and our inspiring environments. These all combine to optimise life opportunities for children and young people, give confidence to parents and carers, and deliver unmatched value for local authorities.

Our focus on support, care and acceptance allows each young person to develop as an independent individual, equipped with the knowledge, experience and life skills to look to the future with increased confidence and aspiration. We are truly proud of the role we play in changing the lives of young people and helping them to realise their full potential.

Our people are central to everything we do – the dedicated and passionate teaching, care and therapeutic professionals who combine to create a unique and inspirational environment for every child.  Their commitment and ability to genuinely connect with each child allows us to achieve long lasting outcomes and fulfil the ambitions of our young people.

The Group’s schoolschildren’s homes and integrated learning centres provide a complete day, residential and 52 week system of education and care. We also offer our young people the chance to access in-house vocational centres and further education facilities.

Most importantly though, we go the extra mile for all of our young people to ensure that their time in our schools and children’s homes gives them the foundations and ambitions to achieve in their futures and create their own story of success.

Brief

Bridge Timber have worked with Witherslack group on numerous occasions, this build was to provide outdoor learning for the home.

Our first meeting with Witherslack group was to discuss their requirements.  Our contact described what the purpose of the room was, with this in mind, Paul was to design the building to meet these specifications.

As no excavations works were required, and services in place.

The structure would be standalone to the existing building and would need to accommodate approx. 5 children at a time, with an internal partition to form a one to one learning room.

Solution

It was decided a helicoil foundation would be used for this installation.  A screw foundation replaces the standard concrete foundation.

The overall Classroom was to measure 6m x 4m and would be manufactured using SIP Panels (Structural Insulated Panels), which conform to building regulations, 125mm SIPS were used in the floor and walls, with 175mm SIPS used for the roof structure.  SIPS conform to building regulations.

Externally the classroom was clad with Western Red Cedar.  One obvious advantage of cedar cladding is that it is a natural product and a sustainable product. This means that if you use it you are protecting the environment and reducing the carbon footprint of your building.

Our eco classrooms come complete with Aluminium double doors, with an option of bi-fold.  For this build we supplied double doors in UPVC.  UPVC windows installed in our standard anthracite grey colour to match the powder coated aluminium doors (When supplied).

Standard roofing would be box profile roof sheets, with a UPVC guttering system to the rear.

As standard all classrooms are finished internally with plasterboard skim finish to all walls and ceilings.  Internal decoration can be included at an additional cost.

Flooring options are commercial grade flooring, commercial grade carpet tiles, with option of vinyl to the kitchen and bathroom areas.

Our standard electrical package consist of downlights, quantity is appropriate for the size of the building, power sockets, again this is discussed prior to installation to ensure the school are happy with the quantity.  Heating is discussed prior to installation, and in most cases to conform to building control, SBEM cal’cs along with Air conditioning is required.  Air conditioning is the preferred solution and was installed at St Ambrose.

A stunning Classroom manufactured at Chilworth House, we wish the school and children many of happy years in their new facility.
