East Meon CE Primary School

East Meon Primary School – Introduction

Welcome to East Meon CE Primary School’s website. We hope that it provides an insight into our happy and successful school. We are a small village school set in the beautiful South Downs National Park. We are very fortunate to have extensive grounds and learning spaces outside, which we utilise at every opportunity – come rain or shine! We pride ourselves in being at the heart of the community and we have strong links with our local church All Saints. All the adults in our school are committed to providing high quality learning experiences for all our children in an inclusive, caring, safe and stimulating environment. If you would like to find out more about us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit. Jenny Fenton, Headteacher.

Brief

The first contact with the school was made with the head teacher, Jenny Fenton.  Her request was an additional learning facility externally to their existing primary school.

A site survey was arranged for Paul Charnley our sales director and Jenny Fenton to meet and discuss the school requirements and budget.

With the budget in mind and requirement, Bridge Eco Classrooms would design a Eco Classroom to suit, the requirement was an open learning area, no toilets required.

Planning permission was required with Bridge Timber instructed to carry out the necessary paperwork, planned drawings and elevations provided with assistance from our planning consultant.  Planning was approved then order placed and works were due to commence in 6 weeks from order.

Solution

Once planning was approved, foundation works begun.  The choice of foundations were “Swift” a concrete footing system.  The ground was excavated in preparation for the foundations.

The Eco Classroom was to be manufactured using SIP Panels (Structural Insulated Panels) which conform to building regulations, 125mm SIPs are used in the floor and walls, with a 175mm SIP for the roof.

Externally the classroom was clad with Western Red Cedar 18mm. One obvious advantage of using Western Red Cedar cladding is that it’s a natural product and a sustainable product, meaning you are also projecting the environment. Cedar wood can be painted/stained or simply left to its stunning reddish colour, fading naturally to a silver/grey colour.

Our eco classrooms are all complete with Aluminium double doors, and some cases bi-fold, in this instance we installed double.  UPVC windows installed in our standard anthracite grey colour to match the powder coated aluminium doors.

As standard all classrooms are finished internally with plasterboard skim finish to all walls and ceilings.  If requested, internally decoration can be included in the price.

The flooring supplied as standard is commercial grade carpet tiles, with a vinyl flooring fitted into the kitchen/bathroom areas – East Meon had neither therefore internally was fully carpet.

As standard our electrical package consist of downlights, quantity is appropriate for the size of the building, power sockets, again this is discussed prior to installation to ensure the school are happy with the quantity.  Heating is discussed prior to installation, and in most cases to conform to building control, SBEM cal’cs along with Air conditioning is required.  Again in this building air condition was supplied.
