Perryfield’s Junior School

Perryfields Juniors Introduction

Perryfields Junior School is a vibrant learing community where expectations and standards are high, our children make huge progress in terms of learning, creativity and their understanding of themselves and others.  We are very proud of what they achieve and we are relentless in our efforts to ensure that they are academically, socially and emotionally prepared for the future.

As the Headteacher of the school I am lucky enough to work alongside a great team of teachers, teaching assistants and support staff.  Whilst looking at our website I feel confident you will see that I am also very fortunate to work with 300 amazing children.

Brief

Our first contact with the school was made with the head teacher, Jane Haslan.  Jane was looking at a potential new classroom in addition to the learning facility’s currently at Perryfields Juniors.  The structure was to be standalone and to allow for approx. 30 additional children.

A site survey was arranged for Paul Charnley our sales director and Jane to meet and discuss the school requirements and budget for the overall project.

The school had a tight budget to work with, therefore our design would need to accommodate this.  The structure was designed with specifications stated and within budget.

Perryfields already had permitted development for this project therefore the lead-time for the build was 6-8 weeks from date of order.

Solution

Excavation works were carried out prior to our installation date, and the chosen foundation for the design was the Helicoil system, however care was taken to keep the disruption to a minimum for nearby tree roots.

The overall structure was to measure 8m x 7m, the classroom was to be manufactured using SIP Panels (Structural Insulated Panels) which conform to building regulations, 125mm SIPs are used in the floor and walls, with a 175mm SIP for the roof.

Externally the classroom was clad with Western Red Cedar 18mm. One obvious advantage of using Western Red Cedar cladding is that it’s a natural product and a sustainable product, meaning you are also projecting the environment. Cedar wood can be painted/stained or simply left to its stunning reddish colour, fading naturally to a silver/grey colour.

Our eco classrooms are all complete with Aluminium double doors, and some cases bi-fold, in this instance we installed double.  4 x 800mm UPVC windows were installed in our standard anthracite grey colour to match the powder coated aluminium doors.

For the roofing, we use box profile roofing sheets, with a UPVC guttering system to the rear.

As standard all classrooms are finished internally with plasterboard skim finish to all walls and ceilings.  Internal decoration can be included in the quotation.

The flooring supplied as standard is commercial grade carpet tiles, with a vinyl flooring fitted into the kitchen/bathroom areas.

As standard our electrical package consist of downlights, quantity is appropriate for the size of the building, power sockets, again this is discussed prior to installation to ensure the school are happy with the quantity.  Heating is discussed prior to installation, and in most cases to conform to building control, SBEM cal’cs along with Air conditioning is required.  Again in this building air condition was supplied.

A low level disabled ramp for access was installed along with balustrade to the front elevation.

A stunning building provided to Perryfields, we wish the school and children many of happy years in their new facility.
